Our Story
We've always believed that fashion favors the bold. Chico's was founded in 1983 as a small boutique selling Mexican folk art and cotton sweaters on Sanibel Island in Florida. We built a following with our unique combination of great style, one-of-a-kind details, and warm, personal service. Our experience taught us that when women look fabulous, they feel fabulous, too − and sometimes, part of that equation means getting a fabulous deal. So in 1991, we opened our first Chico's Outlet in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, selling Chico's markdowns at everyday deep discounts.
We expanded to new Chico’s Outlet locations on the same simple formula of chic styles at amazing prices. But in 2008, we really got creative. We started designing our own Chico’s Outlet-exclusive products − from key, collection-building pieces to fashion-forward statements, all while staying true to our artisanal Chico's roots. We took the Chico's style our customers loved and delivered it at prices they never thought possible, eventually growing to 121 Chico’s Outlet stores across the United States (and even one in Canada.)
In 2017, we launched our first Chico’s Outlet website, Chicosofftherack.com, keeping our commitment to must-have fashion at an equally fabulous price. Today, Chico’s Off the Rack continues to open new stores in even more convenient locations, offering original Chico’s Outlet styles to really sweeten the deal. Chico's FAS, Inc. is a cultivator of brands serving the lifestyle needs of fashion-savvy women 30 years and older. Our brand portfolio currently consists of three brands: Chico's, White House Black Market and Soma. Our brands are all specialty retailers of private label women's apparel, accessories and related products. As of October 1, 2020 we have 1,309 boutiques and outlets throughout the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands), as well as an online presence for each of our brands.
