SilkAir’s 9 Boeing 737-800 aircraft will progressively join the Singapore Airlines fleet with a freshly painted livery, newly upholstered seats, and served by cabin crew who will now be dressed in the iconic sarong kebaya. So when you walk down the only aisle on the plane, it will truly feel like a Singapore Airlines flight. Look forward to meals created by Singapore Airlines’ team of chefs, which features a greater variety of dishes on rotation. That means you can savour delightful new main courses even if you fly to the same destination multiple times a year. On Economy Class flights under 3.5 hours, your meals will be served in an all new sustainable paper box that is deep enough for gravy dishes and comforting congee.
When it comes to carbon-neutrality, we’re not sitting on the fence.
Every day, more than 200 of our planes take to the sky. We’re determined to reduce our emissions, and be a company that can continue to develop without devaluing the environment. We’ve joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in its commitment to reducing the industry’s emissions in three stages – a 1.5% improvement in fuel efficiency each year from 2009 to 2020; carbon-neutral growth from 2020; and 50% absolute reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.
We support IATA’s Four-Pillar Strategy to address climate change, comprising technological, operational, infrastructural, and economic measures. This includes revolutionary aircraft designs, more efficient flight procedures and air traffic management, weight reduction efforts, as well as market-based measures to prevent uncoordinated policies.
We’re at the forefront of fuel efficiency – with our fleet renewal policy, improvements in flight operation procedures that minimise fuel use without compromising on safety, and participation in route planning and restructuring at international levels. Other initiatives include airframe and engine performance improvement packages, usage of lightweight crockery and cargo containers, reduction of operational items and more frequent use of mobile ground power units and pre-conditioned air units to reduce the operation of on-board auxiliary power units.
