About our DVDs
Our DVDs are in Region 1 format and are compatible with DVD players purchased in the U.S. and Canada. DVDs purchased in other countries (including the U.K.) will not play on most U.S. or Canadian players.
High Definition DVDs - HD DVD and Blu-Ray
HD DVD and Blu-ray are competing high definition DVD formats.
HD DVD is a new optical disc format that stands for High-Definition Digital Versatile Disc. It uses a blue laser, which allows for more data density per disc. HD DVD delivers six times the picture resolution of normal DVDs, up to 7.1 channels of high-resolution audio, amazing interactivity and the opportunity for more bonus content. You must have an HD DVD player in order to play HD DVDs. Standard DVDs will work in HD DVD players, but HD DVDs will not work in standard DVD players.
Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. As with HD DVDs, you must have a Blu-ray player in order to play Blu-ray DVDs. Standard DVDs will work in Blu-ray players, but Blu-ray DVDs will not work in standard DVD players.

The BBC is the largest producer of English-language programming in the world. In the United States alone, over 1,000 BBC programs are available on video for purchase through a variety of sources. We stock all of the titles distributed by BBC Video, our North American label, and many of the most popular titles distributed by other partners. If there is a title you cannot find, which you are pretty sure was produced by the BBC, please Contact Us and we will try to find out who distributes it. If it's a BBC title, which is not released, we'll certainly count your vote when planning on future releases.
