Our Plan

Hello and welcome to TransPennine Express (TPE). We’re a train company that runs intercity services linking some of the biggest and best cities and towns across the North.

Between 2018 and 2020 we’re going to be delivering more than £500 million worth of investment in new trains, new routes and new products that will make travelling on our network easier and more inspiring.
All big visions need a plan - and ours is no different. We've devised a plan to guide us on our journey to transform our franchise and make life better for everyone - customers, colleagues, our stakeholders and all those Northern communities we know and love. This plan is built on our strong commitment to corporate responsibility and drive to be the leader in safe, innovative, reliable and sustainable transport.

What are we planning to deliver by 2020?

New and improved trains220 brand new intercity train carriagesNew carriages will form 72% of our fleet and run at speeds of up to 125mph More than £31m investment to upgrade our existing fleet, making them look and feel brand new More seats 13m extra seats a year 10,000 more morning and evening seats into key Northern cities (80% increase) New and improved services 55% increase in the number of services connecting the largest cities in the North of England and Scotland New and improve connections: Liverpool - Scotland and Manchester - Newcastle/Edinburgh More weekend services (24% more on Saturdays and 52% more on Sundays)

Complimentary Wi-Fi on all trains by 2018 Free onboard entertainment system Exstream featuring the latest films, Box Sets and news Major investments in mobile and smart ticketing. Transforming intercity train travel Our new franchise started on 1 April 2016 and marked the dawn of an exciting new era for TransPennine Express. We’ve been given the vital role of connecting the North and Scotland, helping to make them greater than ever before. Achieving this relies on transforming into a vibrant and modern rail operator that connects people, places and ideas.

Training, development and diversity As the North grows and transforms, we need to make sure that our colleagues are ready and raring to deliver consistently high quality service and represent the diverse communities we serve. To help us transform every area of our service and take the North further, we'll be making big investments into the best training and equipment for our colleagues.
