Company background

ebookers.com was established in 1998 – but our origins go back further than that. Over 20 years in fact, to when we were known as Flightbookers Ltd. Based in London’s Earls Court, Flightbookers went on to become the UK’s first online travel agent. And did it so successfully that part of the business went on to trade independently as ebookers.com, which eventually floated on the stock exchange on both sides of the Atlantic. The $61m raised by the flotation was invested in a pan-European roll-out; and in November 2000, ebookers.com bought Flightbookers itself for $15m – reuniting the two companies once again.

ebookers.com was acquired by Cendant Corporation in February 2005. In October that year, Cendant split into four separate companies – real estate, travel distribution, hospitality, and vehicle rental companies.
