Budget Truck Rental History
1998 Budget Group, Inc. acquires Ryder TRS, Inc. and combines it with Budget Truck Rental to form the Budget Truck Group in June.
2001 Budget’s Truck Rental’s first 700 newly-designed, blue trucks are released from the manufacturing plant.
2002 Ryder TRS, Inc. is officially integrated with Budget Truck Rental, under one brand name, during the first quarter.
Budget Truck Rental begins to retire the Ryder TRS bright-yellow trademarked trucks from the fleet, and replaces them with new, blue Budget trucks. From coast to coast, Ryder TRS signs are replaced with new Budget signs.
Budget enters into a definitive agreement to sell substantially all of its car and truck operations to Cendant Corporation. On November 22, the sale to Cendant is complete. 2003 20,000 former Ryder trucks are re-designed and introduced into the rental fleet with new
2006 Cendant Corporation separated into four independent companies: Realogy, Wyndham Worldwide, Travelport and Avis Budget Group, Inc.

Through this separation, Budget Truck Rental is part of Budget Rent A Car System Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Avis Budget Group. Budget Truck publishes a new comprehensive guide to do-it-yourself moving, available free at any Budget Truck Rental location. 2008 Budget Truck introduces where2® Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices with guidance by Garmin®, making it the first consumer truck rental company to offer GPS devices.

2009 Budget Truck Rental establishes a new relationship with AARP to provide AARP members with savings.. 2012 Budget Truck Rental and Extra Space Storage team up to provide customers with additional convenience and reliability. Under the new agreement, select Extra Space Storage locations across the United States will feature Budget rental trucks on site to meet customers’ storage and transportation needs.
