Talbots began from a singular & personal vision, inspired by a joy of discovery and fueled by a commitment to timeless and timely fashion, extraordinary quality and memorable service.

In 1947, Rudy and Nancy Talbot, two passionate and entrepreneurial New Englanders, put an ad in The New Yorker. And what started out as 3000 fliers ultimately became a catalog with a cult following—treasured for its spirited voice and modern classic product. Soon they moved into a historic Hingham, Massachusetts, house where they painted the front door a welcoming red to signal that here was an oasis of inspiration and hospitality.

Through the decades, Talbots has expanded beyond New England and developed a devoted following of smart shoppers who rely on gracious service, great quality, timeless pieces—and Talbots famous "surprise and delight." Today Talbots is a dynamic combination of heritage and innovation, translating the original Talbots DNA for today's culture. Our omni-channel expression includes 500 core and outlet stores, throughout the country and Canada, and a growing e-commerce business.

Through our philanthropic focus, we invite our associates, our women and our communities to join us as we engage, inspire and connect with each other to make a positive difference in women's lives.

In 2019, we celebrated our fifth year of partnership with Dress for Success® and designed another exclusive limited-edition collection with O, The Oprah Magazine. This collaboration raised over $1.9 million in sales and monetary donations, and we collected 2,900 boxes of nearly-new, wear-to-work clothing. Together, we have positively impacted the lives of more than 125,000 women to help them reach their fullest potential in work and in life. Lifting women up is our passion and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible generosity of our community of women helping women.

In our fourth year supporting Dress for Success®, we raised over $1.5 million from our exclusive O, The Oprah Magazine Capsule Collection sales and monetary donations and collected thousands of boxes of nearly-new professional clothing for DFS. Through the partnership, we have now positively affected the lives of more than 100,000 women. Our annual impact is the result of the relationships we share with women in communities across the country to collectively Give Confidence, Hope, and Style.
