Enchanting the Mind, One Book at a Time

At Book Outlet, our core focus is Enchanting the Mind. This is our why, our purpose, our passion behind everything we do. We believe we are not just selling books, rather we are impacting the lives of millions of people both locally and across the globe.

As readers, we know the joy that reading brings but we also know how expensive new books can be. That is why we strive to offer read-iculously low prices on great titles, so that the joy of reading can be accessible to all. Our parent company, Book Depot, has been offering customers amazing deals on new books since they began selling online in 1997. Our product is purchased from many different publishers at amazing prices and we pass along these savings by selling them to our customers for deeply discounted prices.

Bargain books are excess inventory and store returns that we purchased directly from various publishers. We purchased these books for amazing prices and we pass along these savings to our customers by selling them for 50% to 90% off publisher’s list price. These books are new and in good reading condition and will, in most cases, have a small dot or line on the edge of the book to signify it is a discounted title.

You can shop thousands of titles from a variety of categories including fiction, children’s books, biographies and more. We get new titles added to the site daily so there are always new books for you to browse.

The roots

The roots of Book Outlet go back to the year 1985 and the entrepreneurial vision of John Hultink, our company’s founder. John is one of five brothers who, together with his parents, immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands shortly after World War II, seeking a better life across the Atlantic. Like many immigrant families, those early years were not easy but that struggle had a pivotal influence on the roots of our company.

Passion for books

John’s passion for books and his entrepreneurial drive began well before 1985, going back to the early 1970s when he founded a small publishing company that translated Dutch books into English. These books appealed to many immigrant families across Canada who wanted their children to have the same experiences they had grown to know and love as children.
